Rapper "The Game" tried to head over to Canada earlier this week as part of his “Red Nation” tour, but his attempts at entry weren't taken kindly.
According to a statement from promoters for the tour, Canadian customs denied entry to the artist because of alleged gang ties.
The promoters say they “completed all necessary work permits and paperwork to allow [The Game] entry into Canada,” but it was a different story when he arrived.
“While The Game was flying to the first scheduled tour date on April 19th 2011 information passed that credible evidence had been obtained by Canadian customs to allegedly prove The Game is a member of the notorious gang The
Bloods,” the statement says.
“Based on this intelligence they received – combined with his alleged association to organized crime – Canadian customs declined him entry into Canada,” his reps explain, clarifying that “past criminal history of The Game was never addressed in conversation with Canadian officials and at no point was that the issue for his denied entry.”
According to the statement,
“customs insisted the reason was strictly his current gang affiliations”
The promoters say they’ve made
“every attempt to speak with custom agents in both Ottawa and the point of entry to see if anything could be done to reverse the decision, including putting up a bond. We
were informed we could not do that either.
Based on Canada’s privacy laws, customs officials could no discuss the details of the matter and that the case was closed once a decision was made.”
The Game tweeted a play-by-play of the incident on April 20, telling his followers, “Been in Customs for 3 hours……. #patienceIsAvirtue,” and then following it up with the update:
“Customs officials just denied me entry into Canada. I’m sorry 2 ALL my fans but I was mislead by promoters & assured I would be able 2 enter.”
Although The Game tweeted that he was being “detained in Canada for 14 days until they process my inadmissability then I’ll have a hearing heard by a judge…At that point the judge will decide whether deport me or give me a sentence for violating Canada’s immigrant entry laws,” the statement from the tour’s promoters suggests otherwise.
“Contrary to social media reports, The Game is not being held in Canada,” it says. “For further questions regarding his whereabouts, we suggest contacting the Canadian customs office.”
At least, The Game tweeted, “they let me call home, & tweet before they lock [me] up !!! Gotta give up my phone & property. This some
straight bulls—- ! Flew all the way from LA to be denied and detained ?!?! WTF”
